Q: CAN YOU TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOURSELF, AND WHAT YOU DO? ‍

A: I am the Software Engineer, CTO at Rectxt. I code for fun. As a CTO, I keep the engine running, put out fires, sometimes accidentally break stuff and rebuild it stronger and better.

When I am not coding I like to visit breweries and try local beers. Being a Vancouverite, I had no choice but to hike every mountain I see. I also love football.

Q: SO FAR, WHAT’S YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT WITH RECTXT? 

A: I helped build the Rectxt Integrations Module. I’d say the day our first integrations customer went live was my proudest moment so far with Rectxt!  After putting in many hours and seeing it all come together, it definitely made the challenging yet fun days so worth it!

Q: WHAT MAKES YOU THE MOST EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF RECTXT?‍

A: Recruitment technology is gaining pace with the world starting to embrace fair and no-bias hiring, faster screening and better experience for candidates and recruiters altogether. I don’t like to throw around the word ‘AI’, but I should say I am very much excited about data-driven recruitment. I am excited to build that future of Rectxt.

Q: IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND DO ONE THING DIFFERENTLY WITH RECTXT, WHAT WOULD IT BE

‍A: As a Software Engineer, I am never satisfied with my code. There are always going to be bugs and always room for improvement. If I could, I’d go back and build Rectxt’s Campaign module differently.

Q: WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING OR PODCASTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO THESE DAYS?‍

A: I have been listening to Reply All podcast by Gimlet for a while now. It's got a good mix of technology, true crime and investigative journalism.

Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THE CTO TYPE FOR A NEW START-UP IN THE HR/ RECRUITMENT TECHNOLOGY SPACE?

A: I am newer as CTO so I don’t think I have any advice for other CTOs - although I have worked in start-ups my whole career. From that experience alone, (not just the recruitment technology space), start-ups give you a chance to wear many hats and take ownership and responsibility when things don’t go as planned. I am also involved in a lot of decision making and help shape the product from early on

Q: ANY NEW SKILLS OR HOBBIES YOU’VE PICKED UP IN COVID ISOLATION?

A: Cooking in my dusted off Insta-pot.

A: Whistler Chestnut Ale.

Q: WHEN THINGS NORMALIZE, WHERE IS THE NEXT PLACE YOU WANT TO TRAVEL?

A: Spain! I had already planned for this summer but COVID had other plans...

Q: WHEN YOU’RE SWAMPED WITH WORK, WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO SONG/PLAYLIST?

A: There is a 90’s Rock playlist by Spotify called “Rock Classics” filled with songs from Rolling Stones and Eagles - just to name a few. Weirdly, that helps me concentrate.
